I realize it looks goofy, but for $129/month for 24 months and 0 down after government incentives, it almost feels like it would be stupid not to. We pay more than that for cell service each month. Plus carbon fiber chassis and suicide doors. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

At that price you can't afford not to. I'm wondering if my being in SC would prevent me from taking advantage of this.

Edit: looks like our tax credit is only 2k. Still not a bad deal. Hmmmmmmmmm.

one of the details is using the GA state incentive of $5000 against the down payment. Not sure how that would work for you.

yeah brain fart moment for me. But even with our smaller tax credit, at 3k down and 129 a month it's still a pretty wicked deal.

What happens after 24 mths? Do you just hand back the keys or do you need to refinance the balloon payment? Not a bad option if you can return the keys. You'd lose more than the $3k in repayments just in depreciation on any other new car.

So basically they're taking $12,500 worth of tax credits as a huge down payment in order to make the lease payments so low.

Yeah, still not a bad thing unless I'm missing something. Its a $40k car for $129

not sure. I would not be interested in a balloon. We are happily car payment free, but the fuel savings, and wear and tear on the Evo alone may be worth it.

As a luxurious/efficient commuter, it's not a bad deal. But if it were me, I'd probably look at putting that big tax credit towards a longer-term lease like 36 months at least.

you can turn the keys in and not make another payment. you refinance the car for the rest of the value.

is it a one time credit? I wonder what they could offer at 36 months.

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK???!!! In Canada to lease the i3 it is $708/month.

Kinja'd!!!

How the fuck do you guys get it for so cheap? I know there is incentives but $579/months worth of incentives? I highly doubt it.

You NEED to do this. That is a ridiculously great deal

DAMN …. I really like that car and really like that deal. If I was just a little bit better off right now I'd be looking into that for myself.

The link you posted says $5000 Georgia tax credit and $7500 federal tax credit. The trick is, I don't know if they give you that money right when you buy or lease the car. You might have to make that $12,500 down payment then wait for the tax credits.

I didn't believe you, so I built one. Over $800 per month, excluding the QC government rebate of $8000. JEEZUS!

You 100% have to hand the dealer $12,500 before you can walk out the door with keys. It's noted at the bottom of the page. So, if you're in Georgia and can afford to not have that $12,500 until tax time next year...

It's honestly not that great of a deal compared to other i3 leases when you compare money down and related monthly payment.

Are you adding a $12,500 down payment and still getting a payment that high?
Also, the lease payment is WAY higher than $129 on the mfg site here in the US. Certain dealers will do a LOT to move vehicles.

I mean, a down payment is basically "lost" money on a lease. In this case, since you're eventually getting that back as a tax credit the next year, it's not completely lost.
But, you're still waiting almost a year for that to truly become "$0 down".

Yeah, and if you don't live in GA you're only getting a 7500 credit. You're basically providing an interest free loan they don't have to pay back. The White House wanted to make the rebates a point of sale at the time of purchase, but it's easier to not ask for money a year later than to front $7500 you don't have.

.

Fiat just dumped a boatload of 500e's here in SoCal so I'm looking into it for about $100.

Honda just announced that they'll be refurbishing the off-lease FIT EVs for $199, unlimited mileage, and collision insurance included.

We leased a Nissan Leaf when they first came out, so I thought I'd share with fellow Opponauts.

The $7500 federal credit goes to the leasing company, which is fine as long as you make sure they take down the price of the car by $7500 when calculating the lease payments. Also keep in mind those lease payments don't include tax, which they'll add (shouldn't be all that much, since you're only paying the tax on the portion of the car you "use.")

Don't know how the Georgia state incentive works. In the People's Republic of California, you fill out some application to the organization that administers the rebates, and assuming they have money left in the fund and their priesthood finds your offering of paperwork in triplicate pleasing, you get a check.

One caution is to make darned sure the paperwork is all clear about this; the dealers will talk about weird crap to obfuscate the whole deal (like, "oh, we'll just add the $7500 to the residual to lower the payments.") Which could potentially complicate things at the end of the lease if you wanted to buy it, for example.

Of course, Tom of CarBuying knows way more about this than I do, so hopefully he'll chime in somewhere.

I think the deals that are out there now for EVs, see the FP article on the Fiats from yesturday, have everything to do with the car makers wanting to hit government mandated CAFE standards in a time when fuel prices are low.

I know I saw that fiat yesterday but we don't even get the 500e in Canada. and we have shit rebates and they are only for Quebec & BC. In Alberta we get diddly squat.

So you can lease that for $129 I can lease it for $708. Seems fair.
